Privacy and Safety Controls: How Intently Keeps You Protected
Safety on a dating platform is not a feature you notice when it works. It is the reason you can browse profiles, start conversations, and share personal details without a constant background hum of anxiety. Intently builds safety into the architecture — blocking, reporting, verification, and privacy controls that give you full authority over who can see you, contact you, and stay in your experience.
Blocking: Immediate and Complete
When you block someone on Intently, the effect is instant and thorough. The blocked person can no longer see your profile in their Discover feed, send you messages, or interact with you in any way. If you had an active match, it is automatically dissolved. From their perspective, your profile simply disappears.
You block the user
Tap the block option from their profile or your match list. The action takes effect immediately.
All interaction stops
Your profile is removed from their feed. Any existing match is set to blocked status. Messages cannot be sent in either direction.
Discovery filtering updates
Both users are permanently excluded from each other’s discovery results. Likes, prompts, and profile views are all blocked.
Blocking is reversible. If you change your mind, you can view your blocked list and remove the block at any time. Unblocking restores the possibility of future discovery but does not recreate a previous match or conversation — those are gone. This is intentional: unblocking should feel like a fresh start, not a rewind.
Blocking Is Mutual
A block works in both directions. If you block someone, they cannot see you and you cannot see them. This prevents the awkward scenario of blocking someone but still encountering their profile yourself. One action, complete separation.
Reporting: When Someone Crosses a Line
Not every uncomfortable interaction requires a block. Sometimes the right response is a report — flagging behavior so the platform can review it and take action if warranted. Intently’s reporting system is designed to be straightforward: select a reason, add optional context, and submit. The report goes to the moderation team for review.
You can report a user for any of the following reasons:
Spam
Automated or promotional messages
Harassment
Unwanted, aggressive, or threatening behavior
Fake Profile
Impersonation or catfishing
Inappropriate Content
Explicit or offensive material
Underage
Suspected minor on the platform
Other
Anything not covered above
Every report includes the option to add a written description with additional context. Reports are rate-limited — you can report the same user once per 24-hour period, which prevents abuse of the reporting system while ensuring genuine concerns can always be raised.
The moderation team reviews reports through an admin panel, resolves them with notes, and takes appropriate action. You are not notified about the outcome of a specific report for privacy reasons, but patterns of reported behavior lead to account review and potential removal.
Verification: Trust You Can See
Blocking and reporting handle problems after they appear. Verification helps prevent them. Intently’s identity verification system lets users confirm their identity through Stripe Identity, earning a verification badge that appears on their profile.
Verification works alongside safety controls in two important ways:
- Verified-only filtering: Premium and Elite subscribers can set their discovery preferences to show only verified profiles. This narrows your feed to people who have confirmed their identity, reducing exposure to fake profiles before you ever encounter one.
- Trust signal in conversations: When you match with a verified user, their badge is visible in the conversation thread. It does not guarantee compatibility, but it confirms that the person behind the profile is who they claim to be.
How Verification and Safety Work Together
Verification reduces the surface area for fake profiles. Blocking gives you instant control over individual interactions. Reporting handles edge cases that slip through both layers. Together, they create a system where each safeguard covers the gaps left by the others — no single feature is relied on to do everything.
Discovery Preferences: Who Sees You
Beyond blocking specific users, Intently gives you broad control over who appears in your feed through discovery preferences. You can set filters for age range, maximum distance, gender, and intention alignment. These filters work before you see a single profile — narrowing the pool to people who match your stated preferences.
Two filters deserve specific mention in a safety context:
- Intent match only: When enabled, you only see profiles whose stated intentions (casual, serious, marriage) align with yours. This reduces mismatched expectations, which are a common source of uncomfortable interactions on other platforms.
- Verified only: Available to Premium and Elite subscribers. Restricts your feed to profiles that have completed identity verification. A simple toggle that significantly changes the quality of your discovery experience.
Data Privacy: What Intently Collects and Why
Safety extends beyond interactions with other users. It includes how the platform itself handles your data. Intently collects only what is necessary to operate the matching and messaging system:
- Profile information you provide (name, bio, photos, preferences, intentions) is used for matching and displayed to other users as you configured it.
- Location data is used for distance-based matching and is never shared with other users beyond the approximate distance shown on profiles.
- Payment information is processed by Stripe and never stored on Intently’s servers.
- Messages are stored for conversation continuity and moderation review when a report is filed. They are not used for advertising or sold to third parties.
Account deletion is available through the profile settings. When you delete your account, your profile is removed from all discovery feeds, your matches are dissolved, and your data is queued for deletion in accordance with the platform’s privacy policy.
Practical Safety Habits
Platform features are one half of the safety equation. Your own habits are the other half. A few guidelines that apply to any dating platform:
- Do not share personal contact information (phone number, address, workplace) until you have had enough conversations to feel confident about the person.
- Use the in-app messaging system for early conversations. It gives you a record that can be referenced in a report if needed, and it keeps your personal channels private until you choose to share them.
- Trust your instincts. If a conversation feels off, use the block button. You do not need a reason that meets a threshold. Your comfort is reason enough.
- Report patterns, not just incidents. If someone is not technically violating a rule but is making you uncomfortable through persistent behavior, report it. The moderation team evaluates patterns over time.
Date With Confidence
Safety is not a feature. It is the foundation everything else is built on.
