Understanding Intently's Compatibility Scoring System

Compatibility on Intently isn't a single number that magically predicts your soulmate. It's a layered system: how you find people, how you deepen connections after matching, and how you explore fit with someone you've already connected with. Here's how each piece works — and why Intently built it this way.

How Discovery Works

The Discover feed is where you browse and like profiles. It is filter-based, not AI-scored. There is no mysterious algorithm deciding who you'll "vibe with." Instead, you control what you see through your preferences.

Available filters include:

Ordering follows a simple logic: boosted users appear first, then by subscription tier (Elite, then Premium, then Free), then by last active. The goal is to surface people who are engaged and likely to respond, not to score compatibility before you've even matched.

No AI in Discovery

Intently does not use AI or compatibility scoring to order your Discover feed. What you see is driven by your filters and these ordering rules. You decide who matters to you — the platform doesn't guess.

The AI Compatibility Score

Once you've matched with someone, Elite subscribers can request an AI compatibility score. This feature is available only to Elite ($29.99/mo) members and only for people you've already matched with.

The score combines profile data and an AI-generated analysis. Here's how the numeric part is built:

Base score: 50

The score is capped at 100. In addition to the number, Elite users get an AI-generated text analysis: shared interests, potential areas to navigate, and conversation topic suggestions. It's designed to give you something to work with — not to replace your own judgment.

The Compatibility Quiz

For all matched users — Free, Premium, and Elite — there's the Compatibility Quiz. Both of you answer the same questions independently. Once you've both finished, you see how your answers line up.

The score is straightforward: (matching answers ÷ total common questions) × 100. It reflects how often you chose the same option, not an opaque algorithm.

Intently groups results into insight tiers:

80+ — Amazing compatibility

You aligned on most questions. You seem to share many core values and lifestyle preferences.

60–79 — Great match

Solid alignment with room for interesting differences. A good foundation to build on.

40–59 — Interesting dynamic

Some overlap, some divergence. Your differences could lead to growth and new perspectives.

Under 40 — Opposites can attract

Different viewpoints could complement each other. Lower overlap doesn't mean incompatibility.

The quiz is meant to spark conversation and self-reflection. It doesn't block you from talking — it gives you something to talk about.

What Makes This Different

Intently is intentional about transparency. The Discover feed is filter-based because you should choose who you see. The AI compatibility score is for existing matches because compatibility matters most after you've already connected. The quiz is simple math: you both answer, you see the overlap.

There's no black box that decides your "top picks" before you've expressed interest. You use filters to narrow your feed, you like who resonates with you, and after matching, you have tools to explore fit — a numeric score for Elite users and a shared quiz for everyone.

That's the design: intentions first, transparency throughout. Because intentions matter.
